As promised - G1610T, 2.30 GHz, 35W, passmark 2330 pts.

even better in some scenarios:

Fully blown FM preset, no "ignore highs" trick.
Look at the indicated wattage - around 9!

Bojcha, you bloody bastard - it's not an FM preset :P Wait...Actually... it's a DUAL setup - dammit :D LOL
Interestingly, your G1610 has Tj at 105 C degrees

Dual at mine - not bad:

I've dismantled my AMD FX platform - I wonder how the things would look there...

Translation of Watt into wat in the Polish translation of Core temp, is not a great honor for mister James Watt

Well agreed ;) But it wasn't me who translated it. Personally I prefer using the unit abbreviation so I'd say TDP = 10 W and so on. In general in Poland many things are translated horribly wrong - movie titles are a good example there :D

Great info here...thanks for your help.
About to buy a system, found a Xeon E5420 at a great price. Quad core chip--would this be sufficient?

The question is, do you really want to invest in pre-Sandy Bridge platform with LGA771 socket (although MB with 775 can be modified to support it)?

i3 2100 is MUCH faster per core (and even as a whole chip), costs about the same, has much lower TDP... and so on. Or invest bit more and get used i5 2300/2400. MB with LGA1155 needed - also cheap (used ones, especially H61 chipset).

In simple, it will not good enough!
Yes you can use stickers to convert it to 775 but..
It's not about cores. And dont get confused by word 'xeon'. Also that's now 'old' chip. I use E8500 at 3.16GHz even overclocked to 3.6 easy, nd then it's OK. CPU usage ~50%
Thing is that those new (even celeron) chips are working way better then 775 socket chips. And they are now cheap. So it's not worth to search for overpriced ddr2 and some second hand motherboard.. not even brand pc.

@mediak

So, you see :) Like Bojcha said - even Celerons like G1610 (dirt cheap, by the way) beat the sh...t out of the older platforms.
