Hi,

Weird question : are there any known stability problems with Stereotool 7.03, standalone edition?
This because I had about 3 "hangs" of stereotool last week, where stereotool doesn"t process any data & fails to stop.
" killing " & starting stereotool solved the problem. (using virtual soundcard, VAC)
And this on windows 2008 R2

Did it run properly before, or did you install version 7.03 last week?

I don't know of any stability problems. Well I didn't until I read your post ;)

I suppose based on your description that both the audio stops and the GUI doesn't respond at all anymore?

Hi Hans,

Tnx for your answer.
The last days I did some more testing, and I found that it started to 'hang' after receiving hickups/5 billion cracks.
So first I thought that the 'music program' was crap, but when I listened to the output when stereotool was disabled, then everything was fine :o
And as soon as I start stereotool, the hickups are starting. (there is enough cpu/memory, new machine).
What I also noticed is when I start stereotol, the oflows/uflows in VAC (Virtual audio cable) is increasing and increasing (and increasing).
Do you perhaps have an idea why stereotool causes so much overflows/underflows in Vac?
(I"m using sample rate of 44.1k , vac as input, vac as normal output, streaming to the universe)

tnx/bedankt
Bart

Ah you're using VAC! Ok... Are you using the stand alone version of Stereo Tool? If so, try enabling "Synchronize to output" in the input sound card settings, and let me know if that helps.

(Basically, the VAC sample rate doesn't match that of the actual sound card, resulting in all kinds of issues. This causes Stereo Tool to re-open the sound card access when the buffer is empty. Could be that that is causing issues; during normal operation this should never - or at least VERY rarely - happen.

Alternatively, the cracks could be caused by a too small output buffer setting in Stereo Tool.

Hey Hans,

I found the culprit :)
After a few days/nights of headache I found that teamviewer (!!!!!) was causing my problems.
After switching of teamviewer (which we need to remotely access the box), the overflows/underflows are now a lot less.
It works smoother again now..(not perfect yet )
How one stupid tool can break everything...............

Regarding this " try enabling "Synchronize to output".
If I activate that (standalone version), I don't have any sound anymore.
It's true that the cracks are gone like that, but the listeners won't be happy ;)

(fyi, the buffer is even set to 2 seconds..which is huge already I think)

I'm running a similar setup right now, and was able to get rid of dropouts by doing the following:

- Using UltraVNC instead of Teamviewer
- Set the maximum sample rate of the input-VAC in the VAC-options to 48000 kHz
- For just ST-remote-controlling, using the ST-Web-Interface

Maybe this helps ;)

Hi,
we also switched (back) to vnc over here now.
May I ask you which min sample rate you are using in VAC, and which stream fmt you are using?
Are you also using the "Synchronize to output" option in Stereotool?

No. I've activated it for testing purposes, but only thig was that the CPU load increases rapidly, but no sound quality or stability difference...

Yes, they happen when ST opens the device at start. But then, it runs stable for days and days...
