I've been working with Linux audio for over 2 decades, so I'm not a noob -- though I don't normally do Linux GUI desktop stuff.

I'm using 9.92, since 10.x doesn't really seem to work on MacOS or Linux. That's been my experience, anyway. I'm running Ubuntu 22.04.3

I'd love to use the VLC input. But I cannot for the life of me figure out where to enter the stream URL. What I've read implies that there's a place to enter that on the ST GUI. That just does not appear to be the case, unless it is very skillfully hidden.

As a plan B I installed jackd. VLC shows up as a jack device just fine. Everything works normally.

In ST I have jack (ALSA) selected as the main input. Jackd is running before starting ST. ST gives a startup error every time, and never shows as an input in the Jack GUI:

Error opening (ID 3, 2ch, srate 44100): N: Input/output error

If I select 'jack' as the output device for Normal, it behaves as expected. It shows up as an output device and pairs itself with the system.
inputs. I've tried other sample rates, etc. I get a sample rate error if the settings in ST & jack don't match, the above error if they do.

My definite preference would be to get VLC working as the input. I've never had good luck with Jack's long term stability.

I just tried ST 10.11 -- it basically behaves the same as 9.92. VLC input doesn't even seem to be an option.

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

What are you trying to achieve, because that's not entirely clear to me. You can arrange and capture the stream in Linux VLC with the stereo tool GUI. You can also use liquidsoap to capture (use pulseaudio !!!) the stream with input.harbour and then run it through the stereo tool and spit it out again on the output or as a stream! There are several possibilities! Furthermore, we do use the stream function at the local broadcaster with a slightly older version of stereo tool, but that is a Windows version and also requires VLC 2.x, it will not work with VLC 3.x. But the solution I propose is to look at the possibilities I mention first. If you are not a fan, like me, of GUI, then look at liquidsoap, under which the Dutch forum folder contains an example that I posted with liquidsoap! Good luck

Hi,

VLC integration only works on Windows at the moment (it should work with VLC 3 though). But libVLC isn't very stable so we never spent time on making it work on other OS's.

What's going wrong on Linux or Mac with version 10? It shoud all be stable now, aside from a few remaining VST display issues in certain Mac hosts.
