Hi all,
I have been using stereo tool for many years and have come to rely on it for quality audio.
I upgraded from V9.2 to 9.31. Suddenly without warning my computer almost ground to a halt and would not respond hardly at all.
Reverting back to v9.2 did not at first cure the problem, so I went back further to a copy of version 7, which cleared the settings from v9.2, which started working again.

I am loathed to use v9.31 till this problem can be explained.
For the purists, my system is Lenovo G50 2.2gHz quad core, (genuine Intel) 4 gig ram, terabite solid state drive (quick as a flash). Windows 10 pro.
It is a very fast computer.
David.

Further to the above, I tried the new version again, with the same results. Massive CPU usage, making it impossible to do anything else till ST is closed. I have to clear setting to get back control, so its hard to establish what goes wrong.
David.

That cpu is not that fast as you think. However, you can try go to "CPU and Latency" and set 4 core usage (Threads).

I already have that set, I have been using ST for many years.
I currently use v9.2 with no problems, if I try to use v9.31, the computer stutters to a halt and I have to kill ST to get it back.
Reverting to v9.2 is OK after I purge the settings.
The PC is used for music and has been very successful for years, up until this new build.
I shall await others opinions and thoughts on the subject.

Thanks David.

check the "process priority" under "cpu & latency" - make sure "process priority" is set to "normal" and not "realtime".
the PC specs cant handle ST using "realtime" scheduling and the problem youre describing sounds like its set to "realtime".

This is all set OK.

The question is, why does v9.23 work perfectly, but v9.31 does not.?
David.

Hi,

The Stereo Tool 9.31 32 bit Stand alone ALSA version and the Linux 32 bit Command line version crashes with segmentation fault on startup.
Tested on Debian 8 Jessie (32bit) and Debian 9 Stretch (32bit)
Interestingly, it starts on a 64-bit system.
The latest working version is: 9.21

Additionally, the ALSA version requires libjack.so.0, although it shouldn't.
