Stereo Tool version 4.20 is now available!

Most important changes:
- Loudness sounds much better and can handle much louder bass sounds without distorting
- Low latency mode sounds much better than before, and latency is reduced
- Low quality mode sounds much better than before, and cpu load is reduced

Full list of changes:
# Loudness: Added a filter to reduce bass distortion. Bass levels can now be set much higher without getting more distortion than before, or kept at the same level for better sound quality.
# Loudness: Added a deep bass boost filter that boost very low (up to about 70 Hz) bass sounds by about 1.5 dB (at 100 Hz the bass is about 0.8 dB softer though).
# Loudness: Added a limiter to the Clean/Punch filter to remove distortion caused when setting it close to Punch. Moved Clean/Punch default setting closer to Punch.
# Low Quality mode: Changed the processing that is used for low quality mode. Quality is much better than before, and the CPU load is reduced.
# Low Latency mode: Fixed some issues in the low latency processing. Latency is now approx. 100 ms lower than before, quality is much closer to that of normal latency processing.
# Noise gate: Noise reduction can now be set for each frequency band.
# Added a number of presets with more bass.
# Added Marino's Urban preset to Web Radio presets.

Hi Hans,

re: v4.20

1. New version vst is a few megabytes too heavy.
2. "Clear buffer if no data.." won't save in user preset.
3. Won't save "Start in tray".

Haven't tested dsp yet. Although, dsp file size is good.

Keep up the good work!

Woops! I completely forgot to update the saving of VST parameters!!!!!! Will check that tonight (sorry...)

What do you mean by: "New version vst is a few megabytes too heavy."?

I think it's roughly the same size as before. Is it causing any problems?

It's not causing any problems. Previous betas that i have stored, show a file size of about 1.07mb's. The last few show about 3.8mb's. I took the liberty of looking in editor. About half or more of the file has "zero" space. I'm pretty sure thats not on purpose. I only point it out for efficiency sake.

The DSP's seem to be roughly the same as previous ones. Presently at 1.34mb's.

cheers

I've made a fix for the parameters. Version 4.21 will be uploaded later tonight. I have also slightly changed some presets.

I've tried to find the cause of the VST "zeroes" problem, but I cannot find it... The code for all versions is identical, except for the parameter handling and external code for the VST plugin handling. So I would suspect the VST plugin code - which is outside of my control... But: That doesn't explain why before version 4.00 the files were much smaller.

Unfortunately version 4.00 was a huge change, and finding out what causes the increase in file size would probably be a lot of work. Since it's not causing problems, I'm not going to look into it right now.

I just found the cause of the big VST files, version 4.22 (should be ready in about an hour) should be normal size again.
