Hi Hans!
I just tested version 20090327 and I must admit that I rediscovered my radio! lol
The sound is really perfect! It'sa real pleasure to rediscover my favorite on air!
For info: I use Windows XP SP3, Pentium D CPU 2x 3.0 GHz, 1 GB RAM, Audiophile 24/96 sound card, my software is Zararadio distribution.
I StereoTool since 1 month, and so far no bugs to report!
Sincere congratulations for your program!

Amicalement
Seb

Hans,

I'm hearing distortion, when i play piano sounds, a good example is the song April Rain from the band Delain..

It's not much but it's there..

Thanks Martijn - I'll check it. I suppose this is only with the latest (20090327) version? I was afraid that the new processing would cause more distortion, but with the tracks I tested I didn't hear any...

Martijn,

I've just tried this song, and the piano at the start of the song does indeed sound pretty bad.

I then turned Loudness, Final Limiter and Hard Limit off (and lowered the output volume), and with those settings I still heard the distortion.

So I went back to the original unprocessed version, and I heard some very minor distortion there. But... If I increase the treble a lot (which is basically what the multiband compressor does if there's a lack of high frequencies, as is the case at the start of this song), it sounds just as bad......

I have compared the output of 3 versions: 3.40 vs 3.50/20090327 (Loudness at 2.30 in both cases), and 3.50/20090320 vs 3.50/20090327 (FM Loud Europe preset), and I'm unable to tell if there's any difference in the distortion between these versions with this particular song.

Still, given the timing (you mentioned this just after I made the changes that I made in version 20090327, which COULD cause distortion), do you have some other songs where you hear this distortion?

How did you make this file? If you turn on both Loudness and HARD LIMIT (!), your signal should not contain any peaks like this - it should be completely flat. This file looks pretty bad...

Here's how 30 seconds of output of the FM Loud Europe preset looks, after upsampling it to 176400 kHz:

So Loudness + Hard Limit SHOULD produce output without any peaks.

Is your data processed in any way after leaving Stereo Tool? Did you for example save it in a lossy format such as MP3? Or did you capture this sound through the sound card instead of saving it directly?

ok and this is the file created from winam and ST and directly converted to wav (winamps disk writer)
and seems to be perfect.
