I use mono bass sometimes to reduce headphone fatigue. It would be excellent if ST had HRTF built in (does it already?). Most plugins I've found that use the old Meier crossfeed (such as BS2B http://bs2b.sourceforge.net/ ) don't seem to handle overshoots properly if put after ST.

The following error appears within a few seconds of starting ST.

1.- Version Standalone 64 bit
2.- Windows 10
3.- The interface freezes and there is no more audio.
4.- Impossible to close the program. You have to do it with the Windows Task Manager.
5.- It is solved when closing and reopening ST.

Best regards from Chile

Hi, I haven't touched the code where the error is reported in at least 2 years. Can you send me (via PM your full .ini file so I can try to reproduce it here? You can usually find it in C:\Users\username\stereo_tool.ini

Hans, this is not directly related to this beta release, but I have a couple of questions about audio processing.

1: Has there been any work on looking at leveraging the power of GPUs in addition, or instead of CPUs to process audio? Is there more "bang for your buck" so to speak, power/efficiency wise going this route?

2: What about AI? Or Machine-Learning? Can any of this powerful, new technology be used to improve audio processing?

Just wondered where things are innovation-wise with this amazing technology that you are bringing us.

Thanks!

Hi,

1. On a modern many-core CPU you can already run dozens of Stereo Tool instances simultaneously. Some things would indeed be suitable for running on a GPU, but many others are not (for example, a compressor always depends on the previous value, and the whole idea of GPU's is that many cores do the same thing at the same time, so that wouldn't work). So there is not really anyting to be gained by this, and it would cost a lot of development effort.

2. We're using AI for PhoneBooster! So yes. It's not easy though. In order to train an AI model you need to know what you want to achieve as the end result, and then you can train the AI to get there. For something like PhoneBooster that makes perfect sense: You can use the original audio, process it to sound as if it went through a phone line, and then train the AI to get the original back. But for other parts of processing it's not so easy. If you have a way to get the result that you want, there's no need to train an AI anymore - and the AI will never be perfect so if you have a way to get there that will always outperform an AI trained to achieve the same result. I could imagine that you could use an AI for things like a Declipper, similarly to how we did it for PhoneBooster. But we already have a Declipper... The Delossifier could be a good one, that could possibly be improved by AI training. If you have any other ideas let me know!

Would it be possible to improve the declipper functionality with AI? I remember an interview where you said it would take like a year to declip one second of audio using the non-heuristical code back in the day. Would it be possible to train an AI model to more efficiently optimize the algorithm?

Is the PhoneBooster restoration effective on music? Does it restore and maintain the bottom end of the spectrum? Or is True Bass the best algorithm for sub-bass restoration?

Minor:
In Auto EQ -> menu: Sound and Silence are broken.
Right side overrides menu on the left.

Not sure if this has already been reported: 'Also Lows' in advanced clipper seems to be inoperative. When toggling the setting, I see no change in the brown bass clipper reference level metering (as was the case in versions prior to 9.80) and hear no difference in the audio.

Currently running version 9.83.

Hi.

Enabling Sub Bass Boost seems to make the overall audio louder (regardless of the boost settings) if either multiband is enabled at the same time. It's a good +3 or +4 dB. Should I post my preset or send it via PM? It appears to have something to do with the density settings of the multibands and quick-adjust? I don't know enough to narrow it down further. 32bit VST Beta 14.

I'm not sure when this started as I'm just recently trying to learn to use the compressors better.

Yes, please send me the preset. This sounds like a cleanup filter issue (not the first one, too), but it's much easier to find what's wrong when I can reproduce it. (and just turning both on didn't have any such effect here). Chances are that the audio is also better with it enabled - but I can fix both issues if I can replicate it.
