@carlaum: 12, 13 and 13A are all roughly identical (+/- 0.1 dB per frequency). But who knows, there *was* a bug in version 012 and earlier versions that I fixed in 013(A), maybe that's what you're hearing.

Here's version 014, should be roughly the same as 013A except that the CPU load is slightly lower. I don't *expect* any audible changes (I definitely didn't hear any), but if there's one thing I've learned in the development of the last few versions it's that everone hears differently. So I'll await your feedback.

DSP: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... 31-014.exe
VST: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... 31-014.dll

Except for this change, also some of the presets have been updated (so when comparing against 013A make sure that you don't load a preset in this version!)

Aha :!:
I had not tried any other beta than 012, because I have other, more important things to do.
And beta 012 indeed was a little bit strange for my ears.

Beta 14 sounds softer and dry to me. Beta 13A got a more tight sound, with a soft echo in the background. I switched between Betas 13A and 14 a lot of times to be sure. Used the music "After the Fire - Der Kommissar" (the source was a FLAC) and the "FM Transmitter (US, Mono)" preset from Beta 13A with Declipper turned on for the test.

To me. version 13a is definately better that 13. I know that I doing this only by ear, but I had to "tame" down several settings that I had to do version 13.

Infactg, I found that I had to back off version 12.

O! I forgot something *very* important!

There was a bug in version 013A (and some earlier versions as well): The settings for 'Time spread Medium" and "Time spread Short" were not loaded and saved to disk, instead the value '0' was always saved.

Now in 014 that's fixed. But that means that when you open a preset in 013A, the value gets reset to 0 if you open it in 014 afterwards.

So in 014 you need to manually set these two sliders to 20% (the default value in 013A). Doing this does indeed make the sound slightly louder, and allows the clipping some more 'headroom' which could easily create a less 'dry' sound.

Can you check the sound in 014 again with these settings set to 20%? Thanks... You might also want to play with these settings a bit (just don't set them too high or you'll get more harmonics distortion).

013A sounds fantastic on my system, clear!

Hmm, Installing BETA 014 SA & DSP today, I get an 404 error from the ST site, http://installed.stereotool.com/6.31/ (not found, all the other Beta versions used 6.30)

I've been puttering around with the settings, I love the way the pre-emphasized setting in the FM sounds, but just a little more than I want for listening through my stereo system. I looked around and found in Limiting & Loudness @ Lossy Compression a pre-emphasis setting with a slider, wow, if this did what I think it does, this would make everything perfect, however no matter all that I tried, it does not make any sound change. Yes I turned off the FM section and enabled normal output. Any ideas?

No code changes, just preset updates. Still waiting for feedback if the sound (with the 2 time spread sliders set to 20%) is not worse than in 013A...
Presets are NOT in the right order yet! And I probably need to remove one.

Redone the test. This time, used "Dire Straits - Sultains of Swing" (source was a FLAC). Both versions sound perfectly equal. Tight, deep, clear and high defined.
