Thanks both.

Bojcha, the new version and extra settings you suggested definitely seemed to have reduced the difference in meter readings between loud and soft sections of music (yep, was looking at peaks in Audio Hijack). If the quiet parts are peaking at -1 dB, the loud parts are now peaking at -2 and -2.5. The preset still sounds amazing (or rather, doesn't sound like anything – which, for me, is the goal).

DS Audio, yes I've always found that Radio 2 is unusual for a pop station in actually allowing some dynamic range. They do let the loud bits go a bit louder than the quiet bits (never looked at it on a meter, but you can hear it.) I suppose what I'm talking about with this new preset is the opposite of that – where measured output is lower during loud sections than quiet ones, not higher.

It's not the end of the world at all, but it does lose a bit of energy when a beat / loud section comes in. So it makes it more noticeable that there is some processing being applied to the music. It would just be perfect if the peak levels were always the same – in both quiet bits and loud bits. (Or even, like Radio 2, allow the loud bits to go a tad higher.)

Btw. I've also found this issue (if we can really call it that) with the Less is More preset.

Bojcha was pervious using Avarage Joe but 3 bands is awesome. Also i found it easier to configure to my liking.
You are right less is more.

This was a reply on facebook
Mayby you can update your preset whit this informatienummer.

For those asking for preset: I'm not just giving my own presets, but I like to help, so:
1. Take one of Bojcha's presets (BigFlex6 for example);
2. Change AGC to adaptive mode, 2 bands, around 400-600ms attack and 6000-8000 ms release time, tweak;
3. On both compressors also choose adaptive mode (compensate with attack and delay - increase it);
4. 1st multiband should work quite heavy, 2nd multiband use it with very light compression (1.1:1 ratio for example), but enable limiters.
4. Advanced clipper must be engaged in new mode;
5. Highs exciter enabled, but only max 2db
6. EQ - the only bump is at around 160 Hz (3-4db narrow Q)

That's about it... :)
