Hi all,

Got bored over the holidays and made a new preset

This replicas a Wheatstone VP8.

the VP8 is a very versatile box being able to do AM - FM and Streaming
They are an obsolete product now

I had one of these boxes at a station I was working at and never got any good sound of it
that was until Mike Erickson from Wheatstone visited and showed me a few tricks

He soon had it sounding like a FM processor should sound
I have recreated this preset based on the on that preset.. of course there are things that arent the same between processors.

I think Mike is on this forum??

Enjoy

I loved your preset. Do you think that it's suitable for an AC that plays classic songs from the 70's 80's and 90's? It's an online only station.

Hi, probably not really.

The secret sauce with streaming (especially with AAC) is less is better
If you squash the audio too much the codec can have a big problems trying to recreate all the frequencies properly. (Especially if your using AAC+HE)
Probably not so bad if your running a full bandwidth codec like Opus or even MP3

Just Remember, You dont need over the top loudness with streaming because the listener can simply turn up the volume knob.

have a listen to
http://stream1.cnmns.net/sfm

This is one of the stations I look after.. I have gone with No clippers, No limiting just light compression, Absolute highs and a tiny bit of truebass with heaps of headroom.

If your interested im happy to share that preset.

a few fixes and changes

There was a few Bass features enabled that werent required.

Less Harsh but still loud.

I Have Preset onair using uMPX on a 10watt transmitter in a small town Regional town and it blows the competitions Orban 2300 out of the water for loudness and openess

Thanks for sharing Dale - this is great! Suffers a bit from the quiet bits being louder than the loud bits (esp with dance music) but I know that's not an easy problem to solve while leaving some dynamic range in. Other than that it's really natural and musical. Just nice to listen to.

Update.

Removed absolute highs
added WB Compress with very little compression
AGC changes
Limiter changes

Extremely happy with the sound of this one now!

Sounds better than a VP8 now!!

Enjoy !
