Just loaded your preset. The first thing I noted is: why do you limit stereo width with a multiplier of 0.5?
I changed it to the default of 1.0 and it's much more pleasant to me.

The rest of the dynamics sound very promising.

One thing about the bass: it sounds a bit odd on my favourite test song: Owl City - On the wing (very difficult to get it right with this song)

Yeah, shuffling autoplay just presented me Coldplay - Paradise. The transition from the piano intro to the first verse is GREAT with your preset. Chris Martin would love that sound - he said in an interview they deliberatly wanted the sound to be kind of "head banging" while sitting in your car... :-)

Still, there's something in that bass that sounds weird to me, can't describe it. Is it some kind of distortion? I see the white limiter beeing on and off very quickly on the lowest band in MB1.

While writing, I turned off Bass Clipper... I played with that a while ago and didn't like it back than - maybe that's playing a bit havoc with the bass?

Because I'm giving Stereo Tool an ability to not only increase the width, but to decrease the width if it's too high. The ACR settings are making up for the difference. =)

If you increase that "Stereo Boost" multiplier, you are then limiting the amount of dynamic stereo width processing that can happen, which can brick-wall limit the stereo processing (reduction ability) and the stereo field (reduction forced) at the same time. You're not going to gain much or any peak width which ... sounds like crap. ;)

However, it is possible to reduce the actual L-R signal, but have the stereo field sound wider. The amount of L-R signal, and what we "feel" as "stereoness" or an amount of "head wrap", is NOT a linear thing at all. :)

If you just want the final sound to have more of that "head wrap" feeling over-all, you should instead try increasing the ACR "L-R Level Boost" setting to above 100%. This will give you an exaggerated un-natural width you might like, and also maintain the other things in this preset which allow for consistency, and the considerations related to how we localize sound.

It's the Immersive Bass and Basstardizer settings needing refinement. That's by far the least refined thing in the preset. Brand new effects for the preset, and for Stereo Tool too. I have pretty good settings there, just pushing them towards more subtlety without losing consistency. Musicality is where I want it though, for the most part.

The rest of the preset has 2.5 years of work in it. So, it's understandable that something that new would need a little more work, for the present and maybe for the effects themselves. I also changed True Bass settings because of that. I didn't enable them just because I could. You will see from how few things I'm using in some places, compared to others. (like no input AGC with proper input loudness, who does that? hehe)

Good feedback :) I only expected one of those two things so far, even if it's personal preference. I would change "a number of things" about this preset, if it was designed for my personal preferences. I haven't created a preset for my own preferences in over 10 years, even though I still enjoy making presets designed for use as factory, designed to be as usable as possible for others. Almost as much as I enjoy doing way more extreme custom presets and owning a market. ;) (and no, extreme != loud, lol, just... not good for a factory preset, and also some personal secret tweaks and tunings i haven't put into anything public yet)

addendum: It's pretty easy to brick-wall the stereo field in multiple ways with several current generation audio processors, and Stereo Tool is one of them. But at least the problem can be worked around in Stereo Tool, unlike 3 current flagship processors that I obviously won't name publicly. It's especially audible in one of them that [redacted]. It brickwalls the stereo processing and the stereo field like crazy, which is also constantly shifting its artificial "borders" around because of it fighting itself with multiple improperly designed implementations. Only Leif's processors get it right, even though it's a simple implementation of the idea.

Thank you for the explanations. I have changed my stereo settings to let the ACR do the work and have the booster back to 0.5. I indeed like the sound to surround me and have instruments placed everywhere in the room and I can accept the artifacts that sometime happen, so that's probably more taste than anything.

Concerning bass & dynamics. I re-read you initial instructions to supply the input at -18 or -24 dB. Lowering the input does help indeed. I would have thought that AGC would compensate for this, seems it doesn't.

It's Immersive Bass and Basstardizer.. mostly Immersive.

Both should be avoided always if you ask me, especially immersive. However i know many love it.

My feedback would be some things sound unnatural. Maybe the Natural Dynamics combined with stereo boost make things sound funny at times. I listened to George Harrison's Got My Mind Set On You. During the chorus where the backup singers came in, they sounded overly boosted and way up front. During the verse, with the hand-claps, they sounded way forward and loud. The rest of the music settled back and sounded as you'd expect. I listened to my copy of the file directly and it didn't exhibit those behaviors. I listened to it on Stargate or Mousse, and it sounded fairly natural.
