Gedday everyone,

I wish to introduce "Aussie - Breakaway Dreams" (sic) to Stereo Tool pro users, specialising in the use of the new features in the latest Beta of the application. The profile takes full advantage of the Declipper within Stereo Tool, along with the new Spectrum analysis functions within Stereo Tool, to give a modern clean sound but yet with some of the older bass sound of traditional analogue processors.

Ultimately, the profiles objective is to be modern, loud, bassy and dynamic, but with the heritage 80's bass.
Many memories of the old CRL Systems flood back with this profile. Who remembers these puppies?

ST Type: Standalone
ST Version: 8.41 Beta 049
ST Licence: Pro (Everything) + new Advanced Dynamics
ST Profile: ST_841B049_v1a - Aussie - Breakaway Dreams (~8dBr) (FM).sts
ST Dest: FM Output
Typical Top 40 Short LKFS: -9
Profile Use: Top 40, Rock, pretty well everything

The final sound tuning has been primed for FM use.

For the next few days, you can hear my demo stream running with demodulated MPX, so effectively what it will sound like out to a FM transmitter. I love to Bluetooth teether my phone over to my vehicle's Bose car stereo system, and go for a drive whilst listening to the stream. Just love the sound, dynamic, loud when it needs to be and oh what Bass..

The demo playout rotations that are running, the modern music is primarily linear sourced, the odd 320kbs MP3, however most of the 80's music is only 128kbs. I think you'll find its very nice to listen too.

Feedback most welcome.

- Reduced Stereo Image, due to some vocal phasing issues been just too far out.
- Added MB2 for bass smoothing. Recommend Off for FM users to allow effective loud and outstanding sounds when in a travelling motor vehicle, ie you need the sharp sound to stand out. Recommend On for exclusive steam/DAB feeds where listeners are via headphones.

ST Type: Standalone
ST Version: 8.50
ST Licence: Pro (Everything) + new Auto EQ
ST Profile: ST_850_v2 - Aussie - Breaking Dreams (~8dBr) (FM).sts
ST Dest: FM Output or Stream
Typical Top 40 Short LKFS: -8
Profile Design Objective: To be dynamic and still be competitively loud with modern music with a classic 80's FM beat sound. Ideally a radio sound that can be in the background of the listeners day, with the rythmic beat of the original artists/producers wishes.
Profile Risks: May not be suitable for very low level classical music or high talk stations. Streaming only may wish to enable MultiBand2 for earphone listeners to unroughen the bass a little, personally I prefer it off.
Profile Use: Top 40, Rock, Country.

- Updated on latest Stereo Tool 8.50 release with rename conformance.
- Increased Advanced Clipper drive slightly
- Enabled Normal out experimental limiter for use on the stream feed.

Hi pthompson3,
It sound great, but I have some problem with some voice of speaker intervention, the voice don't stay in the center. Reducing drastically Maximum Amplification of Stereo Boost (1.30X) solve the problem, but it's no more the same stereo :-(
Is it an other way to avoid the problem ?
Regards
Stef

Hi Stef, are you using the latest version of Stereo Tool? There was a issue with the earlier beta version with voices two wide or spaced out. HVZ found a bug and fixed it.
Better still, are you able to record a wav of the audio and share the link with me, I'll take a listen. Alternatively, provide me the source audio and I can work on it here. The idea of the profile is to throw the audio left/right often with normal audio and push hard on the bass. The profile will do this with also with voice but I am yet to hear this been uncomfortable. However if I can get a sample of the audio your trying to do, I'll work with HVZ to address.

Hi Paul,
Sorry with the delay, but I was at IBC.
I test it with ST 8.50 and your preset 'ST_850_v2- Aussie - Breaking Dreams (~8dBr) (FM).sts' I also tested the preset WEB/DAB 'Paul Thompson - Breaking Dreams' and I have the same problem.
For the moment I have reduce to 1.30x the maximum amplification of Stereo Boost to avoir this problem, so it's not possible to constat on the live stream, but you can test it with the files zipped on http://upradio.be/Voice.zip
In the zip some of files are masterised in house, other are automaticly downloaded from a source for other independant radios.
Thanks for your help
Regards

Hi Stef, I've messaged HVZ about this issue that you have brought up and are awaiting his feedback. I really like the wider stereo sound but do understand your concern with voice only. I suppose I have become used to it. I'll discuss with HVZ and see what we can do. My initially feeling there will need to be some development with rules. To get started, I've asked to have a minimal wideness settings if voice only is detected, but if music is detected, the gloves are off and the filter processes at full configuration. Hopefully this will be a start.
