I am hearing impaired and use Stereo Tool as a Winamp plug-in to clarify speech. For example, I can use it to make my recordings of class lectures understandable. It makes an AMAZING difference for me. The compression really helps.

It would be very useful if I could play the input file, which could be in .wav or Windows format, through Stereo Tool, and output it to another file that I could save on my computer. I seem to recall that I did something similar to this a long time ago, but I haven't a clue about how to do it now.

Can it be done? If so, can anyone get me started?

Hello Marcus,

Great that you found such a useful use of Stereo Tool!

To store the output on disk, in Winamp, go to Options -> Preferences -> Plug-ins -> Output. Then select Nullsoft Disk Writer (out_disk.dll). (I think it's included in the standard Winamp installation, if not you can download it from the Winamp site).

Note that this will give you a .WAV file. If you want another format, like MP3, Ogg etc., go to http://www.winamp.com/plugins/browse/7 . (For MP3, use for example http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details/143606 ).

Hans.
