Post subject:  Re: Synchronous FM Transmission and StereoTool

I have two transmitters on the same frequency within 15 miles of each other (SFN) with audio delivered to each TX site via an Internet stream (as no radio STL links are possible).

The transmitters have GPS timing inputs (10 MHz and 1 PPS) insuring carrier and pilot frequency lock, however there is currently no synchronization of the audio between the two sites, hence a poor listening experience. The transmitters have L/R analog, AES/EBU and composite (MPX on BNC connector) inputs.

My question: How might Stereo Tool be deployed in this scenario to synchronize the audio? One instance of ST running at each site? If "yes", how is the synchronization accomplished? That is, is the ST synchro function 'dynamic'; is it able to correct for 'drifting' time delay that might be caused by the nature of Internet packet delivery? Or (more likely) am I thinking about this from inside the box?

Thanks for any insight!

Stereo Tool won't do this (SFN). But MicroMPX soon will!! Stand by.........

(Synchronization needs to be accurate below 1 microsecond. MicroMPX has GPS support - it works in the lab, so soon also in the released version).

When you say, "Stereo Tool won't do this (SFN). But MicroMPX soon will!! Stand by........."

Are we talking about SFN/GPS sync of MicroMPX being supported in the SST software release?

could someone record what happens when trying out SFN in FM?
Unfortionaly I have no stations to try this on, because all are synchronized or don't use the same frequencies

maybe a drive from one TX to other so I can hear this sweat silence that everyone is talking about and I cannot experience it unfortunately

Yes. (Sorry, it hasn't been exactly "soon"). It's working in the lab here.

Hans...I have 2 transmitters on a SFN that use uMPX. I was able to slightly delay one of them using the delay slider on the uMPX decoder, but it doesn't account for variations in travel time through the network. Is what you're testing going to allow the uMPX decoders to lock to GPS so they can be very precisely time-synchronized? If so, I'm very, very interested in this. I'd even be willing to test this in real world conditions if you need.

We are going to need some best testers when this is ready...
