I think it might take some time to do it right... (And first I'll need to find out what such a filter does exactly - right now I don't really know).

So I'll release version 4.20 first, then later I'll look into this.

For now, you could use a 2nd pc. If I get this to work, that shouldn't be necessary anymore - what I meant was that it would be turned on or off dynamically depending on the input signal.

(Basically: Measure peak level WITH and WITHOUT it, and if the WITH max peak level is much lower, switch to that. Only I can't switch immediately as that would cause ugly effects, so instead I might need to look-ahead to know what's coming and then more slowly.)

I've tested that Phase Rotator plugin, and it doesn't help at all - it's even getting worse! :(

Edit: My own stereo filter at 90 degrees doesn't help much either.

So I'm definitely going to postpone this one until I know HOW to do this phase rotating.

Beta versions updated: I've added a few presets with some (but probably not yet enough - honda mb, can you comment on it?) extra bass.

Added more bass to the "bass boost" presets, and improved the sound quality (basslimiter "2 steps" is now turned on - it does make a difference when "deep bass boost" is used)

Small update: Set the Final Limiter less strict when Loudness is used (which also limits). This slightly reduces the CPU load - and *theoretically* it might give a very tiny sound quality improvement, but I don't think anyone will notice it.

This change only affects Normal and High quality mode, not when "Do not preserve loudness" is enabled.

Big quality improvement!

I've found a 2nd method to reduce bass distortion. Now I'm able to get approximately the same amount of distortion as before, but with the Clean/Punch slider set to or very close to Punch!

This means:
- More bass
- More punch
- Warmer sound (especially at higher Loudness values)
and/or less distortion

How to test it:
- Just load your preferred settings
- Move the Clean/Punch slider closer to Punch

Or, change nothing and you'll get roughly the same sound as before - but with less distortion.

What changed:
"Punch" was causing distortion for loud lows. So now I've added a limiter to the Punch filter. There's a new slider (Max punch) where you can set the maximum punch level. Values between 30 and 100 seem to be ok, I still have to find a good default value (will perform some measurements tomorrow). Too high = more distortion, too low = less bass, less punch and less warmth.

Note: The new slider value is NOT yet saved to disk, when you restart Stereo Tool you have to manually set it to your preferred value.

After doing some measurements and tests I've come up with the following default settings:
- "Max punch": 60% (slightly lower than the 75% of before). This seems to have no to very little effect on most sounds (tested with 8 different songs, FM Loud Bass Boost preset), but if there's distortion it acts a bit stronger than before. The idea here is that distortion prevention is more important than keeping the bass level constant regardless of the input sound. (Bass with strong highs will be reduced more with this setting - especially bass at very low frequencies, and that SEEMS to be less noticeable).
- "Clean/Punch": Now set just below the middle between the center value and Punch (so closer to Punch than before).

For all the presets that use Loudness, this should give more punch and a warmer sound with the same or less distortion than before.

I will upload a new version which contains these new preset values.

EDIT: Moved "Max punch" back to 75 - at 60 some bass sounds were just getting way too soft.

Good one!
New bass filter is Upping ~40Hz, but ~100Hz is little down .. this seems to bring back punch again.
