Hi,

How do I best setup StereoTool (7.60) for AM Stereo, do I use the "normal" output? Te transmitter I have ia a "ASMAX1 -B" from ASPiSYS.

All tips are welcome.

Thanks!

Hi Ken,

You can use the (in this case not properly named) FM output for this, it has tilt correction and normal output does not.

Hi,

But that's MPX out? C-QUAM is L+R and L-R (phased 90°). My transmitter has "normal" Left and Right inputs.

Not if you don't turn the FM settings on!

I just discovered the new "AM Transmitter" tab, I will give it a test. Thanks!

I am currently working on my own AM stereo preset as is. Still a work in progress but I mostly have it nailed down except for some treble overshoots if natural dynamics are used.

I am using a kit built AM stereo transmitter known as the Cuff Transmitter after its designer. This one is largely no frills and is only available in limited numbers on a sporadic basis. I can share my presets if need be but they might be retooled for the new version after I update my radio station computer.

So, just to verify. I plug the soundcard output left and right from my output machine to the transmitter left and right but don't enable FM mode. Then enable AM and it should send out C-Quam over left/right? Do I need to do any conversion? My AM TX says 600 ohm, and im coming out of a standard sound card directly to the TX.

You actually need a special transmitter to operate with AM stereo. The reality is that AM stereo requires two different types of modulation in order to function correctly not simply a sub carrier like FM stereo. It cannot be generated by a sound card alone but Stereo Tool can provide the appropriate processing that AM stereo transmitters require. A critical thing I can say is DO NOT MODIFY YOUR TRANSMITTER! In the US this voids your authorization to operate a formerly part 15 legal transmitter. You will need a new transmitter in order to operate in stereo but I can recommend one that is in production today.
