Location: Some campus radio station, Germany
Hi there, hi Hans,

we (a campus radio station in Germany) are currently thinking about whether SSB and the multipath clipper would be beneficial.

Can you explain when the multipath clipper would make sense? We do not have any mountains here but we are mostly covering an urban area so you get lots of reflections by buildings etc.

Which SSB mode is recommended?

Which composite clipper strictness is needed for good performance?

Kind regards,
Alex

I've answered you in an email already but for anyone else reading this:

First, I should warn you that so far I didn't get any positive reactions about improved reception with SSB.

When you run your tests, you should indeed try the multipath clipper or the ITU-1268 clipper modes in areas with difficult reception due to multipath issues. (Easiest way to do this is to login remotely to the processing pc, or use the built-in web server which is somewhat clumsy but should be usable for simple changes like this).

Composite clipper strictness: Higher is better, but with BS412 the effect will be small. Normally the default value (I think it was 12) is just good enough, if you go down further you might get some unwanted effects (although, again, with BS412 I wouldn't expect those to be noticeable at all).

Is there a solution to take the RDS signal out of a MPX out of a tuner? It could be nice to transform this RDS output into the transmitter or Stereo Tool. This is not possible now, I know. Maybe someone has an idea about this.
