As promised, to several I spoke with at NAB, here are links to the 2 sound cards I have tested with that work for FM in Stereo Tool. http://www.audioscience.com/internet/pr ... si581x.htm PCI-Express and Costs around $550 http://www.asus.com/us/Sound-Cards/Xonar_U5/ USB and Costs around $70, must have all effects turned off in sound card control panel Both support 192Khz sampling at both 16 and 24 bit resolution. As always, in Windows, you must go into the "Playback Devices", right click on the output interface you want to use selecting properties, go to the advanced tab, and from the drop down select the 192Khz option, or the output will not pass the full FM signal. |

If using the Analog output, yes, if using the digital output to a Nautel transmitter in MPX over AES mode, then no. |

But calibration is not really a problem, as it can be done easily using a deviation meter. |

Yes, if you are using it already connected to a FM exciter. Analog MPX output can also be calibrated/verified with a oscilloscope and deviation meter won't help you to calibrate it exactly. If you are after a perfect or near perfect squarewave (corrected tilt), go for oscilloscope (i don't know, do FM exciters introduce tilt that could be mitigated with the deviation meter measurement?) and then adjust the correction.

Will this apply to the 320 feed announced at NAB? or will you need 2 systems to send it over IP link? Saw the booth at show ! |

If at some point the Micro MPX codec is sold as a software only version, yes these cards would work, as that's what we had setup at the show. |

@Sandburner14 - I am interested to know if there is anything special needed to use ST with 'MPX over AES' to a Nautel VS transmitter? i.e. If I output 192 kHz digital AES from ST, is this immediately compatible with 'MPX over AES' or are there any provisos? |

The SPDIF from the ASUS Xonar U5 and the AES EBU from the ASI 5810 both work with the Nautel VS transmitters, the only thing needed is that the sound card be set for 192Khz sample rate output in the driver software, and in windows, the playback device settings must also be set at 192Khz sample rate, it's important to do it in both places. Once those are set, then just select that output as the FM output in stereo tool, and select "MPX over AES" as the input on the Nautel VS transmitter and then set your modulation level. You have a reference level in the Nautel AUI that you can set, as well as the FM Output level in Stereo Tool. This setup provides the best quality from stereo tool, as there are no D to A conversions to deal with. One additional side note though that I already mentioned in this thread, on the Asus card, all effects must be disabled in the Asus software for the FM output to work correctly in digital or analog. When you go to set it up, if you have any problems, feel free to message me, I have done this configuration on both VS and an NV transmitters, with both sound cards. |
