Hi HVZ,

I have been looking at the AGC Drive feature as a method for increasing / maintaining volume if we have a quiet input source.

Rather than using Input gain, I was thinking of adding AGC Drive.

I can't find any doco on the AGC Drive feature.

Can you please explain how to use it in conjunction with AGC meter level displays.

Many thanks

BeDazzler.

Hi,

It works exactly the same as "Pre Amp". I added it here because Pre Amp is something that no other processor uses, everyone else uses AGC Drive. But it works exactly the same.

Hi HVZ,

Thanks, that makes sense and aligns with what I see on other devices.... but...... is it dynamic ?

ie: Does it detect the input volume level and automatically adjust depending on the input volume as opposed to just increasing the volume without checking the actual input level ?

It increases the level before the audio enters the AGC. It's the AGC's task to adjust dynamically.

Thanks @Mathisjsco, I understand that.... but driving the AGC input is an easy way to create distortion before the AGC which will make it harder to remove (ie: distortion will be present from early in the chain).

When using the input gain feature it appears to be clever because it only increases the gain up to a point.

My question was around using input gain vs AGC drive - is it more reliable to drive the AGC input harder OR is it more efficient to adjust input gain and let the AGC just do it's thing as per normal ?

It cannot create distortion.

HI HVZ,

I've been playing with the AGC Drive on our test rig and it does create a more firm sound, but it gets harsh.

It's still not clear to me how the AGC Drive works... does it just arbitrarily increase the volume going into the AGC and nothing else ??

You say it does not cause distortion, so..... how is it different from Pre-Amplifier ?

Thanks

It's the same as Pre Amplifier.

Are you using a ratio in the AGC?
