Post subject:  Feedback / Help with school project (for broadcasting engineering)

Hello Everyone,

I turn to the forums for help & feedback (I hope this is the right place) on my school project for university final. I'm studying broadcasting engineering. This is my first class in the degree field, our project is to put a internet stream together that resembles established terrestrial FM stations here in the us. My goal was to create a sonic signature that captures the sound of some of the major EU stations, instead of US stations. The us tends to slam the processing super super hard. I like the processing of EU stations due to meeting 50 LUFS standards instead of 75.

Link to my project stream is here:

Stations I'd Like to have a Sonic Signature like, the ones with*** (PLUS IN THE USE WITH 75 LUFS they like to crush the music) Music I'll be streaming is EDM, Rock, Top 40 plus some talk show related to gaming, and live djs.

Here is my preset based of the EU FM Preset Jeroen Platenkamp - Beat This FM!

Any help would be appreciated, feel free to tweak my preset as you guys / gals see fit, and THANK YOU AGAIN.

Wesley

I think you got some things mixed up. In Europe 50µs is used and in the USA 75µs, but these numbers indicate the pre-emphasis time for FM. This has nothing to do with loudness.
In some European countries (e.g. Germany) broadcasters have to comply with BS.412, which is a loudness standard. However other countries don't have such regulations. The preset you picked is a Dutch preset, so it does not have to comply to a loudness standard since The Netherlands has no such regulation.

Here is my preset based of the EU FM Preset Jeroen Platenkamp - Beat This FM!

Excellent pre-set. With BS-412 it sounds great.
Remarkably enhances mp3, ogg files ...

It would be great if Jeroen could improve it even more.
Above all, in treble.

Thank you for the reply, it helped my understand my class lesson better. I did not know that over all about he dutch stations. Sorry to pick your brain again, do you think my station has a sonic signature close to radio 538 or slam fm based out of the netherlands this my inspeation. Yet making mt sound my own. Also, on the digital stream are the highs on the audio harsh or over all distortion. Ive tested other then headphones and noticed this in vehicals / cars tuniing in. Stream is up atm due to schhol class today.

Thanks,
Wesley
