Post subject:  Question on advanced clipper settings

Using latest ST (v8.40) for backend to another processor (like an Omnia 9sg) and have a few questions on the following advanced clipper settings.

1. Oversampled Pre-Clip: What exactly does this do and is there any real world advantage to enabling it? It's hard to hear any difference while toggling it, although I think it's a tad louder with it on.

2. Also Low Freqs: I understand this runs the bass clippers in comp clipping mode. Is there any real world advantage to enabling this?

3. Prioritize Loud Sounds: I can't seem to dig up much on this although the clipper sounds a bit more open with it enabled. Seems to be new setting in v8.40.

I've toggled these settings and can't seem to arrive at a conclusion on whether to enable them or not.

FYI: I'm using composite clipping mode and processing for analog FM.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Brian

1. It should theoretically be very very marginally louder.
2. Probably not.
3. If there are loud mids and loud bass or highs, the bass and highs will make more room for the mids. This causes less IMD and a slightly louder sound (to our ears, not if you measure RMS).
