I run a streaming, pop-music station as a hobby. I'm trying to present a feed that is reminiscent of U.S. broadcast FM so that the songs "feel" familiar, while avoiding a completely lifeless result.

I expect that most listeners are using inexpensive equipment, such as earbuds on a cell phone, or PC speakers. I use several methods to audition the stream including a laptop, a nice stereo, the stereo in my truck (via bluetooth), and decent Audio Technica headphones. I don't have any signal analysis tools.

I'm curious if you have any suggestions for adjustments that I could try to improve the sound.

Thanks for auditioning the stream -
David

Oops, didn't see this one. Apologies for later reply.
Checked out the stream and have to say, it sounds absolutely beautiful. Everything sounds so balanced and each band just falls right into place on every song creating a lovely consistent sound. I can tell you've definitely put a lot of effort into this preset and the result is awesome!
Was also really nice of you to give a shout out to Stereo Tool on the front page. :^)

I think I'll definitely be listening to this most of tonight.

Fantastic job, Dave!

After spending the greater part of a day with the stream, I send my compliments to your musical mix. Very listenable.

I have been trying to put my finger on something I'm hearing on the very high end frequencies. Some songs exhibit it more than others. For the lack of a better word, I'll call it a slight "tizziness", versus what I would describe as a high-end "sweetness" that would result from a simple shelving eq. boost.

Also, I ask more out of curiosity, but is your source audio bit-rate compressed (i.e. MP3), true-linear audio, or a mix?

And just as you describe, my listening today has been a mix of home stereo, LG earbuds & Sony MDR-V6 cans, and Tune-In via Bluetooth while negotiating the nightmare of Atlanta traffic.

Don't go changing up stuff just because of one random guy on a message board, I only bring this up as I am working to train my ears how decode an ST-processed stream without benefit of having the originating ST GUI in front of me.

Regards.

Hello Doctor Technical,

I agree that there is *something* in the high-end that is a bit odd. I don't hear it all of the time, but it pops up from time to time. I can't quite put my finger on it.

The audio source is all MP3 - 256k VBR. Some of it I ripped from my CD collection, and some of it I purchased on Amazon's music service.

Song have all been tagged with MP3Gain, which RadioBOSS appears to be using prior to StereoTool - the AGC deflection, at the louder portions of songs, is pretty consistent from song to song.

Thank you for listening, and your comments -

Dave
