Hans, could you please add more restrictions to the AGC like ratio, min & max gain, slow/dead band, etc.

I do wide range leveling a lot but compensating a 60dB change completely and almost immediately just screws up the sound and isn't what I intend to do.
Using very low up & down speeds is no viable solution.

I tried out 'improved release' and that's definitely better. However it doesn't work well together with the old 'attack': loud sounds will still push the AGC down way to much and then with 'improved release' it takes ages to recover from that.
Maybe making 'attack' work the same as 'improved release' would help?

Where can I set those maximum speed limits? Yes, 'motionlessness' is the thing I'm looking for. :D

You cant. "Improved release" speed is almost fully linear.

OK, but why only release, not also attack? Like this the AGC is strongly asymmetric and attack will jump no matter what I try to do to prevent that.

Is this how old and improved release compare?

PS What is the actual maximum release speed, the upspeed I set? Or a multiple thereof?

Speed in ST AGC is not so much problem. Maybe attack shape need to be bit different.. but there is other thing that can be added...
Like.. Ratio (less important and there is new better tricks to replace that), window (there is already something like this in ST but not good enough - atleast to me), "micro pause" (good for rythmic music a fast peek-change source to avoid AGC change).. etc..

Agreed on all. Additionally a hold time for pauses in speech would be nice.
