Indeed, it "could" be because of changes by the compiler team. Where you and I appear to not agree is on leaving it at thinking that it "could" be the cause, rather than knowing that it "is" the cause.
Like I said, I know that going down that path is essentially all cost and no immediate revenue. It is, however, an effort that should be undertaken - that is to definitively determine if it is an internal design of the compiler and/or libraries, or if it is code that could be further refined.
All I'm suggesting is that you give it due consideration.
