It was always a clipper, the name was wrong (lol, when I made it I didn't even really know what a clipper is)

So can you give some details about your preset? Or maybe post it?

Does what you hear occur when there are louder bass sounds, or always? If it happens with louder bass sounds, it could very well be caused by the changed bass clipping behavior (and then you can fix it by changing some settings).

If you're using FM processing, you could try to turn the hole protection (new checkboxes in the lower right corner of the Loudness panel) off.

@Hans: To accompany the name change, you should update on the main screen, the name "Limiting & Loudness" with "Clipper & Loudness" and the text "Final Limiter" to "Final Clipper"

It's the BBC Omnia 1 preset from Phoenix, slightly modified with increased preamp gain (attached). I'm using for internet stream, not FM (or AM, gulp). It has a nice smooth mellifluous sound to my ears with ST 6.21. With 6.30, not so pleasing. Thanks for any feedback or comment.

Haven't listened (have to go to NAB now), but I do see it uses pre-emphasis - so turning those 2 checkboxes off (Highs volume drop protection) might do something... Otherwise I don't see anything strange that would explain it (except maybe for the overall lows vs highs protection change).

OK, I'll reinstall 6.30 when I get a chance and try toggling those two off and listen again with fresh ears. The reason I use a little pre-emphasis at around 11khz is to spice up the aac encoding for when the stream is played. Thanks again!

You mean 11us? 11us is not enough esepecialy for aac, but depend what peek level you keep for stream. should be around -2

Yes, sorry, I checked the panel ("lossy compression output optimization") and it's set at 10us (microseconds). And yes output level hitting the aac encoder adjusted to never get close to 0 (probably about -4).

-4 is ok. So you have room to pull down loudness and rise output by 2dB ;)

Found a bug in the AGC. Sometimes when i load a preset the AGC doesn't work.
It then stays at the same level all the time.
