Jesse,

Just wanted to say that the Minnesota Lakes version is great! It makes all music sound very clear and open. Please don't forget about these presets and continue to update them as ST gets updated.

Thanks again!

I totally agree.
In some songs seem to have problems of compression (some sounds come and go).
Improved dynamics in mp3 files
If stored in wav
I completely love the dynamics in the preset but it doesn't always sound consistent. If you try “Muse – Map of problematique” everytime the singer sings a word that starts with an S or an F it sounds like somebody is adjusting the treble button. I'm talking about the lakes version in 7.73
Yes! I hear this as well, i only didn't want to be the first "faultfinder" who mentioned this. I notice this effect in nearly all material, not just some songs. But I see nothing to improve there fom Hans's side. There are so many possibilities in adustments to suppress those effects:
-Band couplings in various ways
-Max Attack/ Max Release Parameters in the analog mode to prevent bands from "running away"
-slope sizes of the bands.
You only have to use them!

I am very sorry, but a preset that has these artefacts can never be a good preset in my opinion!
Just use the possibilities that are inserted into this greatful tool and all those effects are gone!

The Multiband sections are so great now like they are!

Sorry for my directness, I only say what I hear.
Regards,
Robert

Robert,

I know personally that Jesse worked for hours, literally, like 10+, to try to tweak out the ill effects. He also reported to Hans the exact problem(s). It's up to Hans now to prioritize and fix the issue.

@Timmywa
I don't see fixing these ill effects anywhere on the todo list in the current beta. Do you know when those will be addressed?

@Jesse
Thanks again for all your work and sharing the preset, but is there any tweaking you can do for the the lakes version in the current build? I listen to it anyway because the dynamics are just amazing :D but you must have also noticed the ducking in the current build right?

I just released Minnesota v0.01.57 for Stereo Tool v7.74+ on the top of the first page of this topic.

Changes:
  • North
    • Fixed broken Burst Protection settings, more dynamics
    Lakes
    • Added new "Spectral Balance" multiband feature, improves attack/release characteristics of AGC and Multiband
    • Moved the multiband's limiters before its compressors, improves attack characteristics
    Twin Cities
    • Fixed broken Burst Protection settings, more dynamics
    • Added new "Spectral Balance" multiband feature, improves attack/release characteristics of second Multiband
    • Moved the second multiband's limiters before its compressors, shouldn't have an effect

Jesse....

It would be possible to use more descompression, especially in the subwoofer bass drum?

Hi Jesse,

Version v0.01.57 is definitely an improvement, it still has the ducking problem though. I hope you'll be able to improve it further.

@JesseG, I just wanted to report that the North preset, is the best I've heard in StereoTool.!

I use this preset for streaming and sounds great!

It is a sound hurts so low for FM, is there any way to increase the loudness?

Jesse,

Hey, perhaps the song track 'Father of Mine' by Everclear may help sort out the ducking issue... After processing on Lakes setting, the vocals are super clear, but as soon as the instrumentals start, his voice goes way deep behind everything else, and its almost hard to hear the guy...

Oh, I also notice the setting uses simple clipper instead of the advanced clipper. Is this by design, or has the preset not been updated for the advanced clipper?

Also, on the HD settings, there are a couple settings that look like they could be increased for maximum quality, but again was not sure if this was on purpose (I use it offline, so no constraints on time/cpu power :) )

The overridden settings below did a fantastic job with Death Magnetica... Although the processing speed for track 2 - end of the line, increased from taking about a minute to just over 14 minutes to process, about 1/2 of real time.
